March Meltdown Challenge!!!

Ok, you know me. I am all about challenging myself to new levels. I have done very well this year so far and I want to see the same results this month. I am going back to a few basics for this challenge and adding in new goals that reflect my recent cleanse and other books I am currently reading. This program was made to meet my needs. You can join along following my exact plan or expand on it and make your own!! Whatever the case may be, BE CONSISTENT! I am going to blog my results daily along with a few photos of my meals and new finds. I will post the pictures either on FB or as a part of my daily blog.

March Meltdown Challenge Goals - Nutrition -

Juicing will be a BIG part of my diet for this month. I will be juicing at least once a day. Along with this will be my daily shakes, something I grew to love on my last cleanse.

1. Every morning wake up to drink warm water with lemon and a dash of cayenne pepper. Follow this with 4 oz of RWK Just Cranberry juice and 1 tbsp of Braggs Apple Cider Vinegar with a little lemon juice added in.

2. Drink only Green tea, Oolong, Yerba Mate and other teas throughout the day. NO FRUIT JUICES OF ANY KIND. Decaf coffee is ok but in small amounts. Try and focus on getting in at least 4 cups of Yerba Mate or Green Tea every day.

3. Drink AT LEAST 64 oz of purified water.

4. Take vitamins and supplements every morning.

5. Limit dairy products to a couple of times a week. Sources...Organic non fat greek yogurt and cooking with non fat organic ricotta etc...

6. Put down the cheese and walk away. This is my weakness. Goat and feta cheese! Allow myself ONE day a week where I can have a VERY small amount of feta or goat cheese on a salad or such but NOTHING MORE! Do not buy it and it will not be in the house.

7. Bread. Limit myself to two pieces of Ezekiel bread but only on days where I have a long run or a hard workout. In other words, on my rest days, there is no need for bread.

8. Grains will come from Quinoa, Millet, Buckwheat, Brown Rice, etc... If it is white...Do not even touch it and that means white rice on sushi too! ONLY brown rice. Limit myself to only two servings of starch per day. In other words, if I have oatmeal in the morning then 1/2 cup of brown rice for lunch then dinner needs to be all veggies and NO grains.

9. Proteins. I am going to try and get as much of my protein content from plant based foods as possible. I will be looking to lentils and other beans as a source of protein limiting my consumption of egg whites and meats to only a couple of times a week. For meats, I am allowing organic chicken, turkey, lamb, bison and nothing more. In other words, no beef. Fish needs to be a priority. Aim for at least 3 servings a week of natural, wild caught fish high in omegas....black cod, salmon etc...

10. Fats. Simply put, we all need a little but even less than we think! Read the book Eat to Live and what he says about Olive oil. A little is all we need. I will throw in a few almonds and other nuts but again, only on days where I am working out and therefore need the extra fuel

March Meltdown Challenge Goals - Fitness -

1. Run 100 miles for the month of March. I have another HM on March 27th!!!

2. ST through Cathe DVD's 3 times a week.

3. Power Yoga and Pilates 2 times a week

4. USE MY FOAM ROLLER EVERY DAY!! This is a big goal for me. I need to be rolling my ITB more and stretching before my runs. Keep me accountable on this one. Really, I need it!

March Meltdown Goals - Measurements -

1. Lose 6 pounds this month.

2. Aim for another 3 inches lost, overall. Measuring my waist, hips, arms and thighs.

There you have it! March is going to be a success, I just know it!!! My little girl will be turing a year old on April 4th and I intend to be in the best shape of my life on that very special day! I want to look back at her photos of her birthday and know I gave it my all to be my very best for her.

Tomorrow starts day one!

My 21 day cleanse is complete!

I am so happy to say that my 21 day cleanse is now officially finished! It was an incredible experience and I learned so very much along the way. Having come from a place in my life where I was already eating very healthy, it did not radically change my view on foods but it did give me insight on a few things I needed to change and for this I am grateful.

I have to say, I am even more excited about my next health adventure which starts March 1st! It is very simple. It is a combination of things I have learned through various programs along with incorporating the HEALTHY foods I love best! To me this is VERY important. You want to enjoy the foods you are consuming!

My sweet friend gave my new plan a name that I have to say I just love! The JensFItDiet!!! I guess this would be the best way to describe my plan as it really does not set name, ie...Vegan etc...

I will be eating a combination of Raw, Vegan and Vegetarian mixed with a few meats mostly Chicken,Turkey and Buffalo along with all kinds of Fish. My main focus will be on eating as many fresh veggies as possible! We are going to continue to juice daily along with trying out as many raw food dishes as possible.

I will be writing a blog outlining my goals for my March Meltdown Challenge in a few days! I would love it if you guys would join me in making March a super successful month!!! My Dad and my husband are joining in on the challenge too!

New totals and race schedule for this year!!

I am on the home stretch! Only 5 days left to go on my cleanse. I have really enjoyed this experience. Thanks to a good program where I actually get to eat and therefore do not feel starving all the time. There were some hard days but overall, I am so happy we did the program. I do not think I will make my overall goal of loosing 8 lbs on the program but that is ok as I have lost soooo much already this year. I mean think about this for a moment, since I started my 11 by 11 challenge back on November 1st, I have lost 25.4 lbs!!!!! That excites me so much, just over 25 lbs in 3.5 months!!! So I cannot complain that the weight loss has slowed down slightly. Over the past 5 days I lost .4 which is less than I was loosing but at least it is something! I only have 4 more lbs to go in order to reach my next goal.

All of this excites me so much. I am already thinner then my husband has ever seen me and we have been together since 1998. I really want to lean out ad much as possible over the next few months to get ready for my big races.

Here is my new race schedule. The biggest change is that we are flying to CA in September to do the Big Sur Trail Half Marathon! I cannot wait as this truly is a dream come true!

January - The Texas Half - Done!
March - Rock and Roll Marathon for the Cure, Dallas
April - The Big D Half Marathon, Dallas
May - White Rock Centennial Half Marsthon, Dallas
June - Rock and Roll Half Marathon, Seattle
August - The Hottest Half Marathon, Dallas
September - The Big Sur Half Marathon, Big Sur CA
October - The Houston Half Marathon, Houston
November - DRC Half Marathon, Dallas and the Seawall Half Marathon, Galveston
December - The Dallas White Rock Marathon!!!!! My first full Marathon! 26.2 for my Dad!

Here are my new totals for the year.....

Wellness totals for the year - Starting January 1st
Weight Loss - 13
Inches Lost - 7.75
Miles - 105.52

The Cleanse Program Totals - Starting February 1st

The Cleanse Program Totals - Starting February 1st

I am doing very well and I am happy to say that I only have 7 days left!!! I am going to try my best and lose another 2 lbs this week but it will be tough! The more weight I have been loosing the slower it comes off.

I am still having computer issues. My Macbook is officially dead and so I am using my Ipad on a stand with the bluetooth keyboard. For typing it works well but for uploading photos it is hard. I can upload to Facebook as they have an app that makes it easy but for other sites like spark or my blog, I have not figured out how to do this just yet.

I am going to start blogging my results again, as I have been but no photos until I figure out what to do! But if you are on FB, send me an email with your name and I will add you! All the photos will be on there.

Hope everyone has a fabulous day!

I tried my best, but fell short....

TERRIBLE! Possibly one of the worst runs I can remember!

Long story short. The day before my run I had a VERY deep tissue massage with heat therapy. The lady was very good as she is an expert in tigger point therapy and deep tissue massages. She worked my IT band SOOOOOO much! Then she gave me a deep tissue massage with warming oils and biofreeze with HOT towels. IT was wonderful but left me extremely sore. The next morning I went to run my scheduled 9 miles and I about died. My knee was killing me, far worse than before the massage, My hamstrings, calves, everything.....it all hurt so much.
I worked as hard as I could in pain but after 5.2 miles I stopped running in tears. I was in a great deal of pain. I was VERY hard on myself. I felt like I gave up and I was letting so many people down by just stopping but I know now that it was the smart thing to do.
Anyways, this weekend has been a hard one. The cleanse is going well and my weight loss is amazing but my knee....well lets just say that this week I am going to take it easy, do a BUNCH of my physical therapy exercises and yoga. I will be walking this week until Wednesday or maybe Thrusday, we will see.

I did my best and I can rest in knowing this but I will never forget this run.

Ready to reach even higher than before!!

Now that phase one of my journey this year is complete, I must look ahead and focus on the next goal that is before me. I could go out and celebrate with a reward dinner or piece of cake but I need to stay ON TRACK and remain FOCUSED!

As I stated in my previous blog, I have 12 days left on my cleanse. I wanted to lose a total of 6 pounds during the 21 day period and now I think I am going to aim for a bit more, a total of 8.4 pounds. It is a big goal but I might as well work to reach for it and even if I come close at least I can say I gave it my all.

Over the next 12 days my goal is to lose another 5 pounds, as I have already lost 3.4 on the program and this will bring me to my new goal of 8.4 pounds lost. It will be tough, but I am ready for the challenge!

I am now reseting my ticker to reflect my new goal. Looking forward to seeing it go DOWN as I work hard!

On February 21st, my Clean Program 21 day cleanse will come to an end. Many of you have asked what will happen next. After the cleanse is over I am going to continue to eat as I was in January, which was pretty much the same as now with the exception that I will eat yogurt, oats and so on. These foods are currently not allowed on the program. I will NOT be going back to a processed diet of any kind and will remain STRONG!! I will continue to juice and consume as many raw foods that I can. I was amazed at my weight loss in December and January when my husband and I began eating this way.

So there you have it! This is my mission and now it is up to me to work hard and MAKE IT HAPPEN!

Wish me luck! Phase two is now underway!

Wise words.

I love the store Lululemon! They have the best fitness wear. Below is their manifesto. Wise words to always remember.....

  • Drink FRESH water and as much water as you can. Water flushes unwanted toxins from your body and keeps your brain sharp.
  • A daily hit of athletic-induced endorphins gives you the power to make better decisions, helps you be at peace with yourself, and offsets stress.
  • Do one thing a day that scares you.
  • Listen, listen, listen, and then ask strategic questions.
  • Write down your short and long-term GOALS four times a year. Two personal, two business and two health goals for the next 1, 5 and 10 years. Goal setting triggers your subconscious computer.
  • Life is full of setbacks. Success is determined by how you handle setbacks.
  • Your outlook on life is a direct reflection of how much you like yourself.
  • That which matters the most should never give way to that which matters the least.
  • Stress is related to 99% of all illness.
  • Jealousy works the opposite way you want it to.
  • The world is changing at such a rapid rate that waiting to implement changes will leave you 2 steps behind. DO IT NOW, DO IT NOW, DO IT NOW!
  • Friends are more important than money.
  • Breathe deeply and appreciate the moment. Living in the moment could be the meaning of life.
  • Take various vitamins. You never know what small mineral can eliminate the bottleneck to everlasting health.
  • Don't trust that an old age pension will be sufficient.
  • Visualize your eventual demise. It can have an amazing effect on how you live for the moment.
  • The conscious brain can only hold one thought at a time. Choose a positive thought.
  • Live near the ocean and inhale the pure salt air that flows over the water, Vancouver will do nicely.
  • Observe a plant before and after watering and relate these benefits to your body and brain.
  • Practice yoga so you can remain active in physical sports as you age.
  • Dance, sing, floss and travel.
  • Children are the orgasm of life. Just like you did not know what an orgasm was before you had one, nature does not let you know how great children are until you have them.
  • Successful people replace the words 'wish', 'should' and 'try', with 'I will'.
  • Creativity is maximized when you're living in the moment.
  • Nature wants us to be mediocre because we have a greater chance to survive and reproduce. Mediocre is as close to the bottom as it is to the top, and will give you a lousy life.
  • lululemon athletica creates components for people to live longer, healthier and more fun lives. If we can produce products to keep people active and stress-free, we believe the world will become a much better place.
  • Do not use cleaning chemicals on your kitchen counters. Someone will inevitably make a sandwich on your counter.
  • SWEAT once a day to regenerate your skin.
  • Communication is COMPLICATED. We are all raised in a different family with slightly different definitions of every word. An agreement is an agreement only if each party knows the conditions for satisfaction and a time is set for satisfaction to occur.
  • What we do to the earth we do to ourselves.
  • The pursuit of happiness is the source of all unhappiness.

I reached my goal...

I went to weigh this morning and to my surprise, I FINALLY reached my initial goal weight!

On January 1st, I set out to lose 12 pounds by April 4th, which is my daughters first birthday. It was my 12 by 12 challenge, and as of today, Wednesday, Febuary 9th, I reached my goal. To put this in perspective, my husband of 11 years has never seen me this thin! I am now weighing less than I did in May of 2008 which was when I reached my all time low since 1997. My wedding rings are put up now as they are so loose I cannot wear them!

I am still kind of in a state of shock as I was thinking the scale would be up today because of my run. Most days after I run the scale always goes up a little but not today! I cannot tell you how excited I feel right now.

I do know this, I would not have been able to accomplish my goals without the strength of my God. I truly give Him all the glory. I know with His strength I can accomplish anything I dare to dream.

Now, you know me, I always have to have a challenge I am working towards! I am on Day 9 of The Clean Program and so for now my challenge is to finish the program strong and to loose another 2.6 lbs, which will make for a total of 6 lbs lost on the program. We now have only 12 days left to go!

What a glorious day this will be! Thank you all for your continued support!

I want to leave you with something I wrote in 2007 for the front of my spark page. It applies to my life in so many ways on this very special day..........

I am currently taking inventory of my life and reviewing my habits so that each day I can renew my goals and focus. My program is changing the more I learn, and to me that is a sign of progress! I am trying to saturate myself with all things positive. I really do believe that we have a choice every day as to what we will hear, see, think and do!! I feel that this has a direct effect on our lives. I want to be a support to anyone I can because through this I myself gain so much by giving to others.

Below is a quote that I refer to often. I have to remember that change takes time and that is ok, but I must continue to reach towards my dream every day...

"You will achieve your grand dream, a day at a time, so set goals for each day / not long and difficult projects, but chores that will take you, step by step, toward your rainbow. Write them down, if you must, but limit your list so that you won't have to drag today's undone matters into tomorrow. Remember that you cannot build your pyramid in twenty-four hours. Be patient. Never allow your day to become so cluttered that you neglect your most important goal / to do the best you can, enjoy this day, and rest satisfied with what you have accomplished." - Og Mandino

Every person who has made a change in their life remembers a specific point in time where something just clicked and they knew this was the moment to change. This is that moment for each of us. Now - today - is the day for change. Forget what happened yesterday and focus on the daily changes you can make that will bring you closer to your goal. If you are thinking, "Well, it is too late, I am too old or too overweight" I want each of you to remember this - post it somewhere you can see it daily -

"It is NEVER too late to become what you might have been!" - George Eliot

You have been given today as a gift - MAKE IT COUNT!!!

My Clean Program Results Day 1

I have to say that the first day was really good! I am very pleased with how easy it was for me to make my meals and I felt very satisfied. I think a large part of this is due to the fact that I was on a form of the elimination diet for the month of January. It was easy to transfer over to the cleanse without feeling so deprived. I do miss a warm breakfast of steel cut oats or a good bowl of greek yogurt but my shake was very good!

The Yes and No Food List for The Clean Program!

I know so many of you were wondering what foods I can eat while on The Clean Program I am doing over the next 21 days. Here is a quick break down.

Remember, I have to have a shake or fresh juice for breakfast, lunch with organic foods from approved list and at least 51% raw, and a shake or fresh juice for dinner with small snacks in between like almonds or more fresh juice from veggies on the approved list.

I am happy to see that so many of you are interesting in this program! I have heard from others who have completed the cleanse with AMAZING results!
